Re: Denver

In it's early days, the Denver franchise was the definition of dysfunctional - undergoing 4 ownership changes in it's first 4 seasons. During that process the team compiled a record of 22 wins and 41 losses.

Under it's most recent owner, Runthegame, Denver has reached new heights. That did not happen without controversy. The team's offense was immediately stripped of starting QB Larry Hayes & WR Nathan Waters, a move fans couldn't believe, as the team had just drafted them in the 1st & 2nd round of the 2017 draft, one year earlier. Denver acquired a plethora of draft picks by dealing both players to Terra Haute - three 1st Round picks, a 2nd round pick, a 3rd round pick, and a 4th round pick. http://cust18.myfootballnow.com/forums/1/120?page=0#128

The rebuild was officially underway - Denver was able to acquire two selections in the top 5 of the 2018 draft and used those picks to begin a turnaround, starting with their defense. With the 3rd overall pick in the 2018 draft, the Denver Broncos selected DE Travis Desrochers - http://cust18.myfootballnow.com/player/3976 - from the University of Hawaii. On the clock again just two picks later, Denver selected DT Jacob Raber http://cust18.myfootballnow.com/player/3882 - with the 5th overall pick. The team expected great things from their two young players. . but nobody could have predicted what happened next. Desrochers went on to record 24 sacks in his rookie season, immediately becoming the best defensive player on the team. Jacob Raber struggled with his development early in his rookie season and struggle to see the field much. He managed to string together 7 starts. The coaching staff has praised him constantly since his arrival, saying that he does everything well, you just won't see it on the box score.

The team then went on to another mediocre season in 2018, finishing with a 5-11 record, despite finishing with the 2nd ranked defense in the league. They ranked #1 vs the pass, allowing only 143 passing yards per game. . however the defense ranked 30th in the league against the run.

Heading into the 2019 off-season, the team already had four selections in the top 2 rounds of the draft. The team used 3 of those selections on defensive backs, all of which stepped in as immediate starters. The other selection was used on WR Ricky Upchurch - http://cust18.myfootballnow.com/player/4487 - at the end of the 1st round, viewed by the team as the replacement for former WR Nathan Waters. The teams great draft didn't stop there, they were able to find a starting TE in the 3rd round in the form of Elmer Longo - http://cust18.myfootballnow.com/player/4303 -, an athletic pass catcher who's a force after the catch, and is also a great blocker. He's such a well-rounded player the coaching staff wasn't sure what position he would play originally. Denver's coaching staff seems to think they found a diamond in the rough getting QB Don Jones - http://cust18.myfootballnow.com/player/4301 - in the 4th round. Head coach Adam Levinson has gone on record to express his support saying "I think this kid is definitely the real deal. . early in the draft process we had an early 2nd round grade on this guy, but then throughout the draft process every-body starting knocking him for small things. You know i think all that stuff was ridiculous. . people were talking about the kid like he still counted on his fingers -- saying he wasn't smart, couldn't read defenses, can't see the field well enough. I'll tell you what, give the kid a ball and watch him throw. . he's capable of doing everything we ask of him. He's got a strong, accurate arm, he gets rid of the ball quick, and he a really tough kid. He moves very well in the pocket and doesn't seem to get rattled under-pressure. That's all I need."

After reloading in the 2018 & 2019 offseasons, Denver was ready to compete. . but nobody was sure just how good they were. After starting the season 0-2, Denver would string together 14 straight victories, finish the season ranked #1 in total defense and #2 in total offense, and with a first-round bye. Two more playoff wins brought the streak to 16 straight wins and a shot at a League Title with a win vs Albuquerque.
